How To Effectively Clean Bullet Resistant Glass

Bullet resistant glass is created by stacking several layers of laminated glass and plastic together. As the name suggests, it’s known to provide protection to people against bullets, and the material used to laminate the inside surface is called polycarbonate, which prevents slivers of glass from flying around if the outer layer of glass were to be impacted by bullets or other particles
That being said, even though the polycarbonate material has an abrasive resistant coating, it still scratches very easily. Hence, the material can easily get damaged if proper care and maintenance is not adopted.
In this blog, we’ve covered the best ways you can use to clean and properly maintain this advanced armour solution

The Outside Surface

Even though the outside surface of the bullet-resistant glass is regular, it is fragile and must be treated with care to ensure it is not damaged.
To clean the outside surface, you can use any normal window cleaning materials with clean and soft rags.

The Precautions:

  • Don’t use solvents or any aggressive chemical materials to clean the glass
  • Don’t leave any water on the glass and ensure you dry the glass well to prevent the salts in the water from staining the glass after evaporation
  • Don’t use high-pressure water to wash the glass
  • Don’t clean the spall sheet side with any solvent except glass cleaners

The Inside Surface

As mentioned above, the inside surface of the bullet-resistant glass is more fragile than the outside surface. Hence, you need to be extra careful while touching it as you could leave scratches or cause damage easily.
To clean the surface, it’s recommended to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the surface. Moreover, the same acid can be used with gauze if the inside surface gets stained.

The Precautions:

  • Don’t use dry or dirty rags while cleaning the inner surface
  • Don’t deliberately scratch or rub stains on the inside surface as any marks on this material cannot be repaired or removed
  • Don’t use abrasive, chemical or even common glass cleaners to clean the inner surface
  • Don’t touch the surface with metallic objects or try to remove stains with a metal-edged object
A bullet-resistant glass is highly effective if it’s working properly. Hence, it’s crucial to maintain the glass. It also helps if you purchase a high-grade glass from a reliable bullet-resistant steel supplier like Cemar.
